The Open Day in May was well supported with nine locos to be seen on the track. The visitors came from five societies, the Sheppey, Maidstone, Tonbridge, Welling and Canterbury clubs. A nice dry day and thanks are due to the ladies for the marvellous refreshments. The Wednesday Gang are still busy with various projects and improvements to the club site. The new club trollies are now finished. They run very well and look splendid. Work has started on refurbishing the small corner shed with metal sheeting replacing some of the timber walls. The guillotine in the workshop has been sharpened and the power supply to the top track on the garden railway has been moved to the signal box. At this time of the year, grass cutting, and general maintenance seems to be the priority. In June, four local Dementia clubs visited the society at Rolfe Lane and between 40 and 50 guests spent a very pleasant few hours. Many of the visitors enjoyed a train ride and a splendid BBQ was provided by Brian and Maggie, with the visitors supplying the bangers and burgers. Around 60 members and friends enjoyed the Midsummer BBQ on 18th June. Not many locos on the main track but the garden railway was very busy. A dull but mild afternoon and all the burgers and sausages were consumed. A nice sunny day saw about 20 members and family turn up for the 'Fish & Chip' track meeting on Sunday, 14th July. Six locos were run on the main track and a few on the garden railway as well. About 60 members, family and friends had an evening trip on the RH&DR to Dungeness and back on Tuesday 23rd July. It was fine evening with club member, Simon Batten, driving ‘Samson’ and waiting at Dungeness was a very tasty fish & chip supper. Thanks to Andy Nash who arranged the evening. It was a bright, sunny pleasant day for the annual New Romney Country Fayre at the end of July and the club was open for the day with trains running. Seven steam locos and five electric locos were in action throughout the day giving rides to numerous children and also in many cases, their parents as well. It was fairly quiet in the morning but was rather busy at times during the afternoon. A nice fine afternoon and evening on the 20th August for the club’s first ever ‘Pizza Track Meeting’. The local Pizza mobile van came to the site and nearly 40 pizzas were enjoyed by members. Eleven locos could be seen running on the track, six steam and five electric, and the last one didn’t come off until it was nearly dark! The Track Meeting and BBQ on Tuesday 3rd September was very well attendedand 80 burgers and sausages were consumed. Seven locos were run on the main track with lots of activity in the garden railway as well with live steam, electric and battery locos to be seen. Nice to see some youngsters being involved and a very pleasant afternoon in the warm sunshine.
